Our Story
 

Powell & Turner began in 1968, built on a foundation of hard work, honesty, and respect. Our founder, Billy Turner, believed in doing business the right way—when he gave his word and shook your hand, he followed through. Those same values continue to guide us today.

 

In 1968, Bruton Powell partnered with Billy Turner to form Powell & Turner. Starting as an HVAC installation company out of Billy’s home in Glen Burnie, the company began with a station wagon and U-Haul trailer. Just one year later, Dan Patterson joined the team and, more than 50 years later, remains part of the Powell & Turner family.

 

Two years later, Billy and Bruton introduced the company’s first mobile sheet metal shop, built from a converted 1958 bread truck. This innovation improved efficiency for installers while allowing customers to receive better custom fits, faster installations, and lower costs.

In 1988, Bruton Powell passed away, and Billy continued the company while honoring his partner by keeping the Powell & Turner name. In 1994, Duane Bittinger joined the team and helped modernize the company by developing the first office systems, computers, and processes that supported future growth. He dedicated 17 years to Powell & Turner before his passing in 2011.

 

After 18 years learning alongside his father, Wayne Turner expanded the company in 2001 by launching the service and maintenance division and introducing residential maintenance agreements. In 2005, Billy welcomed Wayne as a partner, continuing the family legacy.

 

In 2006, Billy’s granddaughter, Malorie Jones, joined the company part-time and helped organize office systems and billing processes. After Billy’s passing in 2009, Wayne took full ownership of Powell & Turner Heating & Cooling and continued building on his father’s foundation.

 

The following year, Wayne and his wife, Marion, began modernizing the company with expanded office support, updated software, improved customer pricing, maintenance plans, a stronger online presence, employee benefits, and new opportunities for training and advancement.

 

Today, Powell & Turner remains committed to the same values that started it all in 1968—hard work, honesty, respect, and doing business the right way.
